Getting Your Dog to Pee in a Cup

Getting Your Dog to Pee in a Cup

Share

Oh, the joys of dog ownership.  This was my latest challenge. My little nervous midget dog would not relax enough even on acepromazine to let the veterinary tech get a sterile urine sample.  So, I got to collect the sample. There are logistics to consider when trying to get a 7 lb. Jack Russell Terrier to pee in a cup.  For one thing, she is only a couple of inches off the ground.  Where the heck do you stick the…

Three Weeks off Hormones for My Dog

Three Weeks off Hormones for My Dog

Misha went for her first vet visit after being on DES (hormones) a month.  It’s recommended that blood work be done periodically to ward off any potential health problems.  DES can cause certain cancers and anemia, as well as other problems. So, it was another sedate, trap, and hood moment.  I think I’m getting better at this because she barely struggled.  I’ve found relaxing music playing low in the background helps relax her. When the result came back, there was…

Get Yourself Some Hormones

Get Yourself Some Hormones

Do you remember that line from Fried Green Tomatoes?  Well, Misha has got herself some hormones, too. I’m happy to say that after a couple of weeks off Proin we have our crazy Jack Russell Terrier back.  I feel bad because now I realize it was affecting Misha in several ways, but I didn’t catch on.  Poor thing must have wondered what the heck was going on in her body A couple days after being off Proin, she was back to a normal sleeping pattern.  Thank Goodness!  I was really having a hard time functioning on 2-3…

Back to the Leaky Bladder

Well, Misha has fully recovered from her bad drug trip.  She’s slept off the fatigue.  it took a couple of weeks, she’s back to her old self. Unfortunately, this means she is leaking urine again.  It started slowly.  A dribble here and there.  I guess the Proin stayed in her system for awhile.  Now she’s back to having accidents. I’ve discussed it with her veterinarian and we’ve decided to start her on hormones.  These drugs do have risks.  However, the…

Misha’s Bad Trip

Misha’s Bad Trip

It has been more than a month since I’ve posted about Misha for good reason.  December was not kind to our little midget dog. You might remember my post about the wind and how scared Misha was.  Since that day, she seemed to be off.  I couldn’t quite pinpoint it.  She just wasn’t herself.  There were several nights where she would wake up, run to the other room, then climb back inside her tent as if nothing happened.  I assumed…
